Clams A La Du Chef

hi it’s emily from bite size vegan and welcometo another vegan nugget. today’s video is another installation of my interview withvegan activist gary yourofsky. what you may not know is our interview was filmed by theone and only vegan black metal chef of youtube fame. during this question, he steps intothe conversation because on top of being the seitan-worshiping lord of darkness, he hasa degree in neuroscience. which is very metal. so without further ado, let’s talk aboutbivalves. emily: something that seems to be arisingwithin the vegan community recently is the consumption of bivalves, you know, meaningscallops, mussels and oysters. the argument goes that they have no central nervous systemso would it be okay to consume them?

gary: no it’s not okay and first of allclams and mussels and oysters are not plants and are not listed in any science book asplants. the fact they contain animal protein should let you know that they are off limits.let’s keep in mind, understand pain and suffering is the most important thing to eliminate.but being vegan means that you don’t consume animal products. if it has animal proteinit is an animal product. so, forget about the clams, forget about the scallops, stickto the fruits and vegetables. vegan black metal chef: and they have thepre-cursors to a central nervous system. they have nerve ganglia. like, even if they arenot all connected as a brain, there is little clusters of nerves that is almost like a pre-brain.we have nerve ganglia too that like act as

mini-brains so our brain doesn’t have todo all the work. and er so it’s just fucking weird and bullshit. emily: vegan black metal chef for the winover there vbmc: a degree in neuroscience comes in usefulevery now and then. gary: actually, come out and say that. bythe way we’ve got the vegan metal chef wants to add something to it. come on in. vbmc: so yeah. so, fucking clams and oystersand bivalves and things, they have nerve ganglia even if it is not in a central nervous systemthey have little bundles of nerves which sort of act like their nervous system. we havenerve ganglia in our bodies so our brain doesn’t

have to do all the work so it’s like miniprocessing stations which is very similar. so, i just don’t fucking get that. it’sjust weird. emily: nicely done. thank you. that’s excellent. i hope you enjoyed hearing gary and the veganblack metal chef’s take on this topic. the bivalve debate is rather heated within thevegan community with proponents of their consumption touting their nutritional benefits and insentience, and detractors erring on the side of caution in the case of sentience we simply aren’taware of. i feel this issue really comes down to one’s definition of what it means tobe vegan. i’d love to hear what you think about this topic. where do bivalves fit withinyour concept of veganism? let me know in the
