Old Fashion Bread
>>howard:from now until thanksgiving, we're here to help you get ready for the big feast. and we're starting at a place that's oftenoverlooked … the bread basket. and today's recipe will not only fill thebread basket, it'll dress it up by adding something extra special. first we make a dough with the basics andcut in pieces of butter until it looks like this. now we’ll add some dried cranberries andorange zest, give that a quick toss and stir in some buttermilk.
once the dough is well mixed,we'll put it on a floured board or right on the counter and knead it until it comes together. once it does, we’ll divide it into two pieces. and we'll form sort of a circle … abouta half an inch thick. now you wanna score these … creating wedges. don't cut ‘em all the way through though(this way they won't dry out when baking). then just finish 'em off with a little sugarto give these a nice crust. after 20 minutes in the oven, they're done. just break 'em apart and let me tell ya, they'llbe the star of your bread basket.
plus, they're great for brunch when the familyand friends come over to visit during the holidays. the recipe for old-fashioned cranberry scones is online so you don't have to wait untilthe last minute to figure out what bread you're gonna serve. i'm howard in the mr. food test kitchen, whereevery day we're looking for an easier way for you to say... "ooh it's so good!!â®"
