hi it's alaskagranny you are probably aware of the health benefits of bone broth we know that it is rich in nutrients and minerals and gives nutrients we don't necessarily get from other foods the bone broth that you make is full of calcium glucosamine chondroitin and gelatin those are the minerals and compounds that help repair your connective tissues so making
bone broth is a wonderful thing for your health i have already roasted some meat and the bones are left over that's a great start if you don't have that go to your meat counter at the grocery store and youlook for some bones they will just sell them label soup bones these are labeled soup bones these are beef bones that is all i could find so that is the amount i am going to use today if you are starting with raw bones you need to roast them
400 degrees for 1 hour if you make it from raw bones your broth can end up with a sour flavor that nobody will enjoy and isn't just as good for you first you want to lay your bones in a roasting pan so they are a single layer find a pan that they will fit and place them in the oven 400 degrees for one hour
the bones have been roasting for one hour time to take them out of the oven remember they are very hot look at that nicely browned and crisp lots of the fat has dripped into the bottom of the pan and that is to be discarded we don't want fat broth we want bone broth the next step is to put them into the crock pot
and allow them to cook for up to 24 hours to make bone broth i already have filtered water on low and i lined my crockpot with a liner take the whole bone place it in the water now
i am going to add a few extra ingredients one special thing you need to add 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar that will cause the chemical reaction that will break down minerals in the bones and allow the protein and gelatin from the joints to be released into the broth then i am going to add a half onion 2 cut up carrots and celery with lots of the leaves
and a bay leaf add all of this, none of this it is your choice add more filtered water to make sureeverything is doused nicely almost to the top of my crock pot put the lid on it and cook on low for 24 hours have the mose delicious bone broth ever beengoing for 12 hours and normally we don't lift the lid on acrock pot but i wanted to show you how it's doing
you can see that vegetables are soft it's been bubbling around and the bones meat is all being release off the bones you don't just want broth you want bone broth so see the bones are still hard we want to keep cooking atuntil the bones are crunchy so that all of the minerals arereleased from the bones this broth has been cooking for 24 hours and you can see some of it has evaporated and the bones are still very hard
which means its not done we want all of the minerals and nutrients to bereleased from the bones the larger and denser the bones the longerit will take add a little more filtered water filtered water to bring it back up i'm gonna put the lid back on and let itkeep going remember you want the bones to crumble and disintigrate be crunchy been 36 hours still hard
so you keep cooking it get all the minerals out of it it's been48 hours and its time to go to next step with the bone broth you can seeeverything has sizzled bubbled together you want to make sure that everything hasgiven 100 per cent of its essence vegetables aren't designed to beeaten like soup they're to give their all to flavor yourbone broth so don't worry if they look mushy theyshould be scoop out any of the big chunks
to get them out of your way and a strain the rest of it rememberit very hot so i put another crock down in the sink with a metal metal strainer and n be sure you use potholders because it's very hot carefully pour the broth through the strainer and that's going to catch any
left over chunks your healthy broth is be left over you can see that some of these bones are crispy you can actually break a bone a partsmall ones and its remarkable that's how youknow you've gotten enough out of the bones are still hard youcan actually continue to use them in your next batch of bone broth these are now very soft
so theminerals and nutrients the good things that are for you are now in your broth if you're expectingyour broth to gel make sure you have lots of joints inthere because the gelatin part is found in the joints label your broth into clean jars or containers let it cool a little bit first keep it in the refrigerator three or four days you can freeze it for longer
